God Knows Their Names

2We were privileged to bring the “Your Life Matters” event to Kennesaw Mountain High School this morning and all we can say is WOW. It never stops amazing us how we leave these events feeling like we received far more then we gave, and this morning was no exception. Before the event started their entire leadership team prayed over us. We were able to see faces connecting to a message of hope and purpose and had the chance to talk with several students afterwards – hearing some amazing things they are dreaming about and thinking through.

For those of you who were in the room this morning, thank you for letting us be a part of what you are doing there. The dreams, ideas, passions and burdens you were thinking through this morning – pursue them with everything in you. We need you.

After the event we got to meet a man known by the students there as “Pops.” He was an elderly man, walking with a cane and on a first name basis with the students. When I asked him why he was there, he smiled and reluctantly began telling me how he wakes up at 3 AM every day, pulls out a list of every student’s name at Kennesaw Mountain and prays for them by name.

He told us, “most of these kids don’t have anyone praying for them, so I do. I know God knows their names but I think he really likes to hear them.”

With everything in me that craves attention, to be noticed, to be known, here is a guy on his knees every morning believing and begging God to move in the lives of students. We were speechless.

God is alive and active, His story of redemption is growing – and mornings like this we get a front row seat. Thank you for praying for us, I truly believe you will not understand this side of heaven the impact YOU are making. And if you are struggling with your role in the story, what if you just started to join Pops? Find a group and pray for them by name everyday, It doesn’t have to be thousands of students, it could be 5 people. We are learning that when we pray on for others and things outside of “our world”, it quickly helps the story to not be just about us.

He’s all I’ve got left!

September 29, 2008 at 4:59 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

We are waking up every single day to a crazier and crazier world. I don’t know where you are sitting today or what your week is looking like, but we are walking in desperate for our God! In the midst of a failing financial market, no gas to be found, and a presidential election, just name to name a few, there’s more than enough to keep us worrying.

In the Broken Voices world…we are trying to promote the film, redesign our website, package the film into a finished DVD, plan events through 2009, and raise support for the organization and our families.

We worked over 100 hours the previous week to meet a deadline and stay on schedule.

How about you? What’s been going on in your life? What has you laying awake at night? Money? Health? Grades? Relationships? Or simply where you are going to find gas tomorrow?

We are all busy. We all have stress. There’s more than enough to worry about. Jesus nailed it when he said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow…Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.” Jesus encouragement to the people in Matthew chapter 6 was to trust God with TODAY. Don’t worry about tomorrow – just concentrate on trusting today – and God will provide. That is a promise! It’s a thought that is changing our lives. It’s also not isolated to Jesus words in Matthew. The idea of waking up and trusting God for his provision today is all over the scriptures.

As we were wrapping up our insane week last week, a faithful friend emailed us these verses from Lamentations 3:22-24. She typed out the verses from three different versions of the Bible. We’ve been soaking on these words all weekend.

22 Beacause of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.

23 They are new every morning:
great is your faithfulness.

24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”  (NIV)

23 They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.  (AMP)

22-24 God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They’re created new every morning. How great is your faithfulness! I’m sticking with God (I say it over and over). He’s all I’ve got left.  (THE MESSAGE)

We are hoping and praying that these words can come alive for you. Please keep praying that God will grow our faith and trust in him. Pray for those who woke up in a total mess today and need a touch from their heavenly father. We’d also like to be more specifically praying for you. Let us know how we can do that by leaving a comment here or sending an email to mail@bokenvoices.org

In it with you,
Matt & The BV Team

Big Weekend

September 19, 2008 at 5:32 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Hey guys it’s Friday which means we should have a new post for you, but it’s not a normal Friday around here. We have a huge deadline coming up and have been working almost around the clock, and will continue to work through most of this weekend. More to come on that, but please pray for us as we work. Ask God to pour out his strength, focus, and vision to cut the film in the most powerful way possible.

Below is a screen shot from the editing of Anthem. More coming soon…
