Never Gives Up!

April 14, 2009 at 12:05 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I cried when I watched this video and I just had to share it with you. Everyone has a unique voice, a dream worth living out, a gift worth giving to the world around them. You may know that about yourself but feel like you are standing alone. Or maybe you’ve just lost hope and have given up all together. The truth is that you are not alone and there is someone who hasn’t given up on you. You have a heavenly father who is cheering you on. He isn’t sitting behind the judge’s table waiting for your next mistake – He knows your name, your story, your hurts and your dreams. He made you, all of you, so know this:

success or failure, his love NEVER gives up.

I feel like I’m writing to myself more than anyone else.  I need this truth today and will need it again tomorrow.

What about you, do you ever feel like someone who has been given up on? Or is there anyone in your life who you have stopped believing in?

While You Were Sleeping

April 9, 2009 at 3:43 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Over the last couple of months we’ve had the privilege of  sharing the Your Life Matters event with 8 high school campuses around the Atlanta area. Enjoy some highlights of our time in the video below. Coming up: April 17th – Pope High School & April 24th – Walton High School.

Here’s an email we received from a high school student who attended our event at Marietta High School:

“Hi, I introduced myself this morning at Marietta High School to Andrew. I just have to tell you guys that your message this morning was awesome and something that I really needed to hear. In fact, its the exact message that I’ve been wanting to tell our FCA but haven’t been able to convey-most likely because I didn’t truly believe that God has a real plan for me until this morning. But you should know that it was a major answer to prayer, I’ve been praying for awakening at MHS and for our FCA to realize and walk in our full potential. MHS is such a dark place and in desperate need of God’s love (as most high school’s are) so thank you for taking the time to spread Jesus’ light. Ya’lls ministry is awesome! Keep loving the Lord and doing what you do! Thanks again”

Advent Conspiracy

December 4, 2008 at 11:11 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I don’t know about you but it seems to me that Christmas has already hit its full stride. It’s as if every year the gap between Thanksgiving and Christmas shrinks a little more and the stress of the holidays expands. Why is that? What if it could be different?

The poor economy has added even more stress to pressure of holiday shoping. Yet Forbes reports, “The National Retail Federation (NRF) says the number of shoppers either in stores or accessing online retailers, from Black Friday through Sunday, was up 17% versus last year and that the average amount spent was up 7.2%. According to the NRF, shoppers were busy buying clothes and electronics. Meanwhile, ShopperTrak, which monitors sales at shopping centers and malls around the country, says Black Friday sales were up 3% versus last year.”

What if we all stepped back from our own lives and looked at a more global picture? How could the holidays be different if we made it less about stuff and more about people? What if we spent our time and money to enrich the lives of others?

We came across the video posted below that stopped us in our tracks and is challenging the ways we spend our Christmas. The initial tempation after watching this is to say, “Oh it’s too late. I’ve already done my shopping. We’ve already made our plans.” Please don’t misunderstand. This isn’t meant to make anyone feel guilty. And by the way, we’ve done our Christmas shopping too. But, it’s never too late to make a difference in someone’s life. It’s never too late to sacrifice something on someone else’s behalf.

Movement and change has to start with someone. How about you? What can you do this year to make the holidays different? Please share your comments and ideas for others to see.

Home Screenings

November 14, 2008 at 6:16 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

We get emails all the time from people who ask if there are ways to serve with Broken Voices – the answer is YES and right now we have an immediate need. Over the next few months we are conducting home screenings of Anthem.

We need your home and your people!

If you have an open evening between now and March, a living room, basement, theater room, bonus room, etc., that can show a DVD and hold anywhere from 10-30 people, you meet qualifications number one and two. The final ask is that you would set out a few snacks, drinks, and arrange for 10-30ish of your friends, family, co-workers, golf partners, piano teacher, dog sitters, etc., to join us for about 2 hours.

What to expect:

10-15 minutes of mingling and snacks as people arrive. A five minute intro of Broken Voices and the film. 75 minutes of the most exciting film you will ever see, at least until we make another one. 30 minutes of follow-up discussion, Q&A, and a very simple invitation from us for people to join us in what God is doing through Broken Voices.

Will you and your friends get pressed for money and feel awkward?

The purpose of the screening is to share the vision of Broken Voices and invite people to join us. So while we are asking people to consider joining us financially, no one will be put on the spot. We will share all the exciting things God has done this year and the amazing dreams he’s leading us towards in 2009. We will provide a packet of information for people to take home and read more. Then we will send a follow-up email to everyone who attends thanking them for their attendance and checking in to see if they have any further thoughts or questions.

It’s simple. It’s also a lot of fun. We’ve held about a dozen of these screenings the past two months and it has been so exciting to share the film with people.

If you are interested in hosting a screening send an email titled “home screening” to mail@brokenvoices.org and we’ll be in touch!
